The Municipality of Red Lake is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Mechanic

Reporting to the Infrastructure Development Coordinator the Mechanic will work 40 hours per week on a regular Monday to Friday shift.

The Municipality offers a competitive wage with an excellent benefit package, which includes family coverage for medical, dental and more, along with membership in the OMERS Pension Plan.

The Mechanic is responsible for maintenance of the light and heavy equipment owned and/or operated by the Municipality of Red Lake. The Mechanic must have Truck and Coach Technician Qualification and a minimum of two (2) years experience.

Job Title: Boat Monitor - Passenger Ferry

Employer: Municipality of Red Lake

Location: Red Lake, ON

Job Type: Full-Time/Seasonal

Wage: $21.80/hr

The Municipality of Red Lake is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a Boat Monitor on our passenger ferry. This is a unique opportunity to work in a picturesque setting, serving a population of 4,100 people and ensuring the safety and smooth operation of our ferry service.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor passenger boarding and disembarking procedures to ensure a safe and orderly process.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the ferry to ensure it meets safety standards and report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate authorities.
  • Assist passengers with any inquiries or concerns they may have during their journey.
  • Enforce safety regulations and maintain a safe environment for all passengers on board.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions during emergency situations, including evacuation procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of passenger counts and collect fares as required.
  • Communicate effectively with the ferry captain and other crew members to ensure a seamless operation.
  • Perform minor cleaning tasks to maintain cleanliness and tidiness on board the ferry.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by the Operations Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to Grade 12 Secondary school education.
  • Ability to climb ladder and perform pre-op procedures in engine room.
  • Must be legally capable of driving vehicle on provincially regulated roads.
  • Possess excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed during emergencies and handle stressful situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of boat safety procedures is preferred but not required (training will be provided).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physically fit to perform duties such as, bending, sitting and standing for extended periods.
